GBS - Sleep is an important part of the human life cycle, apart from functioning to rest various organs of the body that are continuously used, sleep has benefits for growth and maintenance of heart health, sleep disturbances and sleep deprivation often cause a person to lose his productivity and often complain of several disturbances in his body , for example high blood pressure, lethargy, and not focused. Therefore the quality of a person's sleep has a very important impact on everyday life.
The quality of a person's sleep is not only assessed from the duration of sleep itself, many things can influence the quality of sleep, according to Cicik Sulistiyani in her research which discusses several factors related to sleep quality in students, environmental conditions, lighting, activity and lifestyle.
The level of light around the bed can affect the quality of sleep by affecting the amount of the hormone melatonin to be secreted by the pineal gland, the brighter the lighting the sensory function of the pineal gland will be disrupted and suppress the amount of the hormone melatonin to be secreted, thereby reducing the fullness level of a person's sleep.
In addition to lighting, sleeping position affects a person's comfort and is a benefit for the body.
After a day's activities, you need enough sleep to return to your activities to the fullest. Therefore, you need to adopt the correct sleeping position in order to sleep soundly.
Sleeping position is one of the factors that can affect the quality of a person's sleep. There are several recommended sleeping positions so that the body's health is maintained. Here are some correct sleeping positions for health.
Correct sleeping position for a healthy body
A sleeping position that you find comfortable may not make your body better when you wake up in the morning. You may experience neck or back pain due to improper sleeping position, or even other health problems.
In fact, someone who does not apply the correct sleeping position can experience problems with the airways to the lungs. This can then cause several sleep problems, one of which is sleep apnea.
Therefore, you need to know some of the correct sleeping positions to maintain the following body's health:
1. Face Down
Not many choose this sleeping position, because it can put additional pressure on the joints, neck muscles, and nerves. Having your neck turned to one side for hours on end can cause pain, numbness or tingling.
However, the stomach can be a good sleeping position if you have a habit of snoring during sleep or don't suffer from neck or back pain.

However, if you want to try this position, it is recommended to place a pillow to support your forehead and position your face or head facing down, not left or right. This is so that you can breathe properly.
Those are some of the correct sleeping positions to apply every night. You should adjust to the condition of the body and health conditions that are being experienced. With the right sleeping position, sleep becomes more quality and the body is healthier.
If you have trouble sleeping, or even have sleep disturbances, you should consult a doctor to get the right treatment.
2. Sideways
This position is quite recommended to be applied every night, especially on the left side. This is because this sleeping position can reduce snoring that arises, is good for maintaining digestive health, and reduces the risk of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
Sleeping on the side is also recommended for people with stomach acid and sleep apnea, as well as mothers who have just given birth. However, this sleeping position also has drawbacks, namely triggering facial wrinkles, making women's breasts sag, and restricting breathing through the diaphragm.
3. Supine
The correct sleeping position for other health is on your back. This position allows the head, neck and spine to be in a parallel position. Thus, there is no extra pressure on the body and does not cause pain in certain parts of the body.
In addition, lying on your back is known to protect the spine and help relieve hip and knee pain.
The sleeping position on your back can also prevent stomach acid, but make sure the pillow you use can support your head properly.
However, sleeping on your back is not recommended for people who have a habit of snoring while sleeping and sufferers of sleep apnea.
Islam teaches how to do a good sleeping position and has medically proven benefits, the prophet Muhammad SAW. Teaches us to sleep in a position facing to the right, as in the hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslims "The Prophet Muhammad SAW once: Lie down on the group on your right." (HR Bukhari & Muslim).
As science develops, there are studies that prove the benefits of sleeping positions taught by the Prophet, according to Cheng-Deng Kuo and Gau-Yang Chen in their research which discusses comparisons between 3 sleeping positions in modulating sympathetic nerve signals in patients with coronary artery disease mentions that sleeping on the right side makes sympathetic nerve modulation better and is more recommended for patients with coronary artery disease.
From the results of the explanation above, it can be concluded that sleep is an important thing for the human body which has many benefits, and one way to improve sleep quality is to pay attention to the sleeping position itself as taught by the prophet Muhammad SAW. which is medically proven to be beneficial.
