Efforts to shape character and personality through recreational sports must be carried out early and require conditions that support the formation of positive character and personality, for example the leadership and behavior of a good recreational sports trainer or coach. Theoretical approaches that can be used in shaping character and personality through recreational sports are psycho-dynamic theory (psycodynamic theory), trait theory and social learning theory (social learning theory).
The role of recreational sports as a medium for character and personality formation lies in educating a person to be able to fill free time with positive activities and internalizing positive values in recreational sports which are directly applied to behavior, especially during recreational activities.
The impact of globalization and the current reform era has brought the young generation of a country hit by a multidimensional crisis. This multidimensional crisis is marked by the growing fragmentation of life, the strengthening of personal and collective egoism, the rise and spread of various conflicts, the breakdown of moral communities, the many practices without reference to theories and theories without implementation, and various gaps that occur.

Evidenced by the rampant cases of corruption and bribery scandals committed by government officials, honorable members of parliament, and law enforcement officials. Therefore, in order to overcome these various moral crises, of course, the quality of human resources must continue to be improved through various channels of education and training. The main objective of the education and training is to form intellectuals who are skilled and virtuous.
Physical activity and recreational sports that are oriented towards inculcating values can foster the desired characters. Character education spreads to the surface as a result of the decline in moral conditions. Indeed, physical education and sports are not a "panacea" for healing a sick condition of society.
However, the phenomenon of physical activity and sports as part of the study of Human Movement has great potential for character education.
Sport is one of the means to lead a healthier and quality life. One type of sport that is not included in achievement sports but includes the three pillars of sports developed by the government is recreational sports.
This type of sport is done in spare time for recreational purposes or just as a hobby, to get pleasure and relaxation from daily routines in open or closed spaces.
The existence of recreational sports in the era of globalization is important as an alternative in efforts to reduce and prevent stress levels, improve mental health (character), as well as efforts to maintain and maintain a balanced quality of life. The free time that a person has varies greatly depending on his daily routine. Children and adolescents have more free time than adults.
A person's negative behaviors arise because of the free time and opportunities they have, therefore efforts to use free time with positive activities, especially recreational sports are very important to minimize the emergence of negative behaviors.
