Definition Of Physical Education And Sport
GBS - Before going any further, there are several things that must be understood, especially the history of physical education and sports. Therefore, here I will explain some of it. This is important to note!
First, the term Education.
The term education is a word that is not foreign to us because almost everyone knows it. An educator who has a major role in education, namely John Dewey, he defines education as "a reconstruction of various experiences and events experienced in an individual's life so that something new can be more directed and meaningful", this means that experience is the best education.
In reality, education can take place or be done on the playground, the sports field, in the classroom, in the library or even at home.
As stated by Morse in 1960 who distinguished the notion of education into the terms liberal education and general education. The explanation is that liberal education is more oriented to the field of study and emphasizes mastery of the material (subject material). From this explanation, the main goal is to master the learning material even more deeply until it is finished. In a context like this, it is no longer possible to apply the concept of today, because it is seen as a traditional education concept.
For modern education, the perpetrators are prioritized from the field of study or material. In today's education, it is more focused on total individual development. Therefore, much of today's education adopts modern philosophies that focus on different individual needs.
Physical education, sports and health are interconnected with each other which has the aim of developing aspects of physical fitness, movement skills, critical thinking skills, social skills, memorization, emotional stability, morals, aspects of a healthy lifestyle and the introduction of a clean environment through physical activity, systematically planned exercise and health.

In the United States in the 19th century (1885-1900) a dichotomous view emerged, namely the view that human beings consist of two main components that can be separated, between physical and spiritual. This system is influenced by the German and Swedish systems, which emphasize more on the development of physical aspects (fitness), the smoothness of movement and the character of students with gymnastics as a medium.
Still in the United States, in 1910 (Hetherington) considered that man is not something that consists of disaggregated parts. Man is a unity of various unified parts. Therefore, Physical Education is not only physically oriented or not only oriented to one component.
So, the definition of physical education is an educational process that utilizes physical activity and health to produce holistic changes in individual qualities, which include physical, mental, and emotional. Physical education treats children as a unified whole, as a total being, rather than only considering them as someone whose physical and mental qualities are separate.
So a little explanation from me about Physical Education, this is just a little of the many materials that exist. However, someday I will continue this discussion again. Hopefully useful guys, thank you.
